A family carer in Heumen, Mook en Middelaar or Beuningen? Note these dates

Do you care unpaid for a partner, parent, child or neighbour? Then several municipalities in our working area want to thank you for it. This is not a new scheme, but the application deadlines are running out now — and anyone who is late has to wait a year. Hence this overview.

In Heumen and in Mook en Middelaar you can apply for a mantelzorgwaardering (a token of appreciation for family carers) until 1 October: a gift voucher of € 50. Both municipalities use similar conditions. The care is unpaid, has lasted longer than three months and takes at least eight hours a week, and it has to be care on top of what is normal in a household. If the carer is paid from a pgb (a personal budget you use to buy your own care), or is a professional care worker, it is not possible. An important detail: the application goes through the person who receives the care, and that person has to live in the municipality concerned — the carer does not have to live there. The gift vouchers are delivered around the Dag van de Mantelzorg (the national day for family carers) in November.

In Heumen you can apply online with DigiD, or on paper with a form from the town hall or from Mantelzorg Heumen at Kerkplein 8 in Malden. In Mook en Middelaar you can fill in the form both with and without DigiD.

In Beuningen it works differently. There, family carers are surprised with a free flower gift on 10 November, the national Dag van de Mantelzorg, brought round by volunteers. You do need to sign up, and you can do so until 23 October through Stichting Perspectief; there is a limited number of gifts, so sign up in good time. Stichting Perspectief can be reached on 024 - 675 09 39. The municipality of Beuningen also gives a gift voucher every spring to family carers who are known to the Steunpunt Mantelzorg (the local support point for family carers).

And in Nijmegen? There the mantelzorgcompliment (the yearly payment for family carers) stopped as of 2026. So you can no longer apply for it there. The municipality now puts the money into support throughout the year, such as the zorgpauze (a break from caring). We wrote a separate item about that earlier.
