Sheltered housing

A place of your own where you find rest and safety.

Sheltered housing is there for people for whom living independently — even with support at home — is not possible at the moment. You live in a protected living environment where specially trained support workers are close by day and night. That closeness brings rest: there is always someone to fall back on, and the steady structure of the day helps you to build yourself up again, step by step.

At Divers Zorg in Nijmegen, adults with very different backgrounds live together: people with mental health problems (GGZ), a mild intellectual disability (in Dutch: LVG) or dementia, and people with a multicultural background, including status holders (refugees with a residence permit) and asylum seekers. It is exactly that diversity that makes our houses warm and human. We work in a culture-sensitive way: there is room for your faith, your language and your habits, because with us you do not have to become someone else.

Our way of working starts with an intake by a behavioural specialist and a support worker, followed by a period of observation in which we find out what you need to feel safe and at home. From the presence approach, support workers first build a bond of trust; from there we work on recovery, on structure and — where possible — on the step back to more independence, for example through supported living. We evaluate your path in a multidisciplinary review, together with you.

You pay for sheltered housing at Divers Zorg with a pgb (a personal budget you use to buy your own care), which you apply for under the Wlz (the Dutch Long-Term Care Act) or the Wmo (the Dutch Social Support Act, arranged by your municipality). Would you like to know whether sheltered housing in Nijmegen suits you or someone close to you? Feel free to call us on 06 4849 6899 — we can be reached 24/7 and are glad to explain how an application works.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions about sheltered housing

Which indication do I need for sheltered housing?

For sheltered housing you need an indication from the Wlz (the Dutch Long-Term Care Act) or the Wmo, which you then have paid out as a pgb (a personal budget you use to buy your own care). Which route applies to you depends on your situation. We are glad to help you and the people close to you to apply for the right indication.

Is there support at night as well?

Yes. In our protected living environment, specially trained support workers are there for you day and night. So there is always someone nearby you can fall back on, also outside office hours.

Can I keep my own culture and faith in sheltered housing?

Certainly. Culture-sensitive care is the heart of Divers Zorg. We take account of your background, language, faith and habits — for example around food, holidays and family visits — so that you can really feel at home.
