Group support
Doing activities together in a familiar group.
Meeting people, doing something together and feeling that you belong — that is the heart of support in a group. In a steady, familiar group you work on your own goals while you build contact with others. For many people the group itself is the strength: you recognise yourself in the stories of others, you practise social skills in a safe setting and you break through loneliness.
Group support at Divers Zorg in Nijmegen is there for adults with, for example, a mild intellectual disability, mental health problems (GGZ) or dementia. Our groups mirror the city: people with all kinds of cultural backgrounds, including status holders (refugees with a residence permit) and asylum seekers, come together with us. Our support workers work in a culture-sensitive way and create an atmosphere in which everyone can be themselves — multicultural care is not an extra with us, but the basis.
Before you start in a group, we get to know each other during an intake with a behavioural specialist and a support worker. In a period of observation we look at which group and which activities suit you; not every group suits everyone, and that is fine. From the presence approach, support workers build trust, and in multidisciplinary reviews we follow whether the group support brings you what you hoped for.
You pay for support in a group with a pgb (a personal budget you use to buy your own care), which you apply for under the Wmo (the Dutch Social Support Act, arranged by your municipality) or the Wlz (the Dutch Long-Term Care Act). Would you like to know whether there is a group that suits you, or first meet us without obligation? Get in touch on 06 4849 6899 or at info@divers-zorg.nl — we are happy to think along with you.
Frequently asked questions about group support
What is the difference between group support and day activities?
With day activities, a meaningful way to spend the day is central; with support in a group, the emphasis is on working on personal goals together with others, such as social skills and structure. In practice the two forms complement each other well — we are glad to advise you on what suits you.
Do you take my language and culture into account?
Yes. Working in a culture-sensitive way is the foundation of Divers Zorg. Our support workers have an eye for your background, your faith and your habits, and our groups are diverse. That way you feel at ease sooner and really seen.
How is group support paid for?
With us you pay for support in a group with a pgb, applied for under the Wmo or the Wlz. We are glad to work out together with you which scheme applies to you, in a first meeting without obligation.
